One morning I tried to login into a remote system using ssh and suddenly I got the above error. It took me a bit of time to figure out what the problem was. I'm writing this here so that it might save someone some time in the future.

As an exercise, I wanted to see if I could get TOTP codes used for multi factor authentication visible without having to resort to the Google Authenticator app.
